Erica Roth

My name is Erica Roth and I am a first-year MA student in the dual certificate program in Bilingual/Biculturaleducation in the Arts & Humanities department. I am originally from Ithaca, New York, but I did my undergraduate work at Occidental College in Los Angeles as a Spanish major.

I first developed my interest in the Spanish language as a non-native speaker when I went to Costa Rica through a summer program in high school. Throughout my time in college I lived in Argentina and the Dominican Republic. After graduation, I took my interest in the Spanish language to Cordoba, Spain where I taught English as a second language for three years. In Spain I was also involved in bilingual curriculum development in elementary and high schools.

I believe that bilingual/bicultural education is extremely important, especially in a society, which sometimes tends to deemphasize the importance of other cultures in the American school system. I am very excited to be in New York, at TC, and working with the TC Buddies program. I am looking forward to a great year!My name is Erica Roth and I am a first-year MA student in the dual certificate program in Bilingual/Bicultural education in the Arts & Humanities department.
