Christina Esche, Reading Buddy!

| September 7, 2010

My name is Christina Esche and I’m glad to be participating in my second year as a TC Reading Buddy.  I’m originally from Woodbury, CT and earned my BA in Dance and Elementary Education at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA.  For a year after college I taught first grade in Doylestown, PA, but found myself eager to teach in a more diverse environment.  This led me to a position in a public school outside Phoenix, AZ where I spent the next three years, once again, teaching first grade.  During my third year in Arizona, I volunteered to teach a new type of class mandated by the state which was comprised of students all labeled “below English proficiency level” by the state. Now in my second year at Teachers College, I’m a Masters candidate studying Sociology and Education and interested primarily in teacher attrition in urban schools and in teaching as a profession.  I am strongly devoted to public education and public schools. In my spare time I am an avid reader, love to visit museums and enjoy taking ballet classes here in the city.
